uPulse - BodyScoring Fitness Assessment Platform
Designed a tablet-first fitness assessment experience that turns physical tests into clear performance insights, helping coaches personalize training and track client progress.
Year :
2016 -2017
Industry :
Health & Sport
Client :
Upulse
Project Duration :
1 year

Problem
uPulse Bodyscoring was a connected health & fitness solution combining wearable sensor hardware with a digital analytics platform to help coaches measure, assess, and track their clients’ physical condition. Sensors are placed on a chest strap or directly on fitness machines to capture physiological metrics (cardio capacity, muscle tone, stress levels, balance, posture) that feed directly into the assessment app in real time.
Existing processes were fragmented:
Manual tests
Disconnected tools
Hard-to-read results
No clear scoring system for clients
This made progress tracking difficult and reduced client engagement.
Goal
Design a digital BodyScoring platform that enables coaches to:
Run complete fitness assessments
Visualize results instantly
Generate clear performance scores
Personalize training intensity
Track client progress over time
All within a simple, structured, and professional interface.
Users
Primary:
Fitness coaches
Personal trainers
Sport & health professionals
Secondary:
Gym members / clients (indirect users via results)

My Contribution
Research & User Needs
Audit of the current application ( 65/100 score of the SUS)
Field observations in gyms: Fitnesspark, Vitaliberté, Neoness
9 coaches and 12 users in different regions of France were interviewed.
Mapping assessment workflows
Identifying friction points during testing sessions
Outcome: a clear understanding of real-world constraints (time pressure, device usage, environment noise).
UX Architecture
Designed the full workflow:
Client selection
Test category choice (cardio, strength, balance, stretch, stress…)
Test execution with connected sensors
Automatic scoring
Results visualization
Profile summary and personalized recommendations
Focus:
Minimal cognitive load
Linear flow
Tablet-friendly interactions
Fast access to critical data
Wireframes → UI V2
Built low-fidelity wireframes to validate flows quickly
Defined scoring logic and visual hierarchy
Created a color-based system to represent performance levels
Designed dashboards showing test results, progress, and profiles
Each test category received its own color code to improve readability and decision-making speed.
Design System
Neutral dark UI for professional environments
Strong contrast for gym lighting conditions
Clear color semantics:
Very low → Very high performance
Dedicated colors per test type (cardio, strength, balance, etc.)
The system helps coaches instantly interpret results without reading numbers.

Impact
The final product allowed professionals to:
Increased client motivation through clear BodyScoring results and progress visualization
Improved member retention by creating personalized coaching journeys
Enabled fitness centers to monetize assessments via paid coach sessions
Standardized fitness evaluations across locations
Strengthened client–coach relationships through data-driven training programs
Built a seamless connection between physical sensor data and digital insights
uPulse transforms raw physical tests into clear, actionable insights.

LEARNING
Working on uPulse was more than a product design mission; it was a deeply human experience.
As a sporty person myself, this project helped me better understand physical condition, performance indicators, recovery, and how data can support real progress over time. Being immersed in a health & sport environment gave me concrete insights into how coaching, motivation, and measurable feedback can positively impact people’s lives.
Designing a product at the intersection of hardware, physiology, and digital UX pushed me to think beyond screens, accounting for real bodies, physical effort, and on-field constraints.
It was also a real pleasure to collaborate with passionate professionals in a positive, health-driven environment. Working closely with coaches, engineers, and product teams reinforced my belief that great experiences emerge from strong human collaboration.
This project strengthened my motivation to design meaningful products in health, sport, and human-centered environments, where technology truly serves people.
