Bestmile - Designing Autonomous Mobility
Led end-to-end product design for an autonomous mobility platform, shaping the ecosystem across dashboard, Traveler, Driver, and Attendant apps while building early design foundations in a startup environment.
Year :
2019-2021
Industry :
Transport
Client :
Bestmile
Project Duration :
2 years and half

Context
Bestmile was a Swiss deep-tech startup building a fleet orchestration platform for autonomous vehicles and on-demand mobility services. The company was gaining strong visibility in Europe and internationally for its vision of connected, autonomous transportation.
I joined Bestmile as the sole UX/UI designer, at a critical growth phase, where product, engineering, sales, and marketing needed a unified experience across multiple applications to support pilots, clients, and future scale.
The product ecosystem included:
Fleet Orchestration Dashboard
Traveler App
Driver App
Attendant App
All evolving in parallel within a fast-moving startup environment.

Problem
No existing design foundation or system across products
Multiple apps evolving independently
Complex technical domain (autonomous mobility + fleet operations)
Strong pressure from sales and pilots to deliver usable products fast
Need to align product UX with marketing positioning and customer demos
As the only designer, the challenge was to bring structure, coherence, and usability while supporting rapid product iteration.

My Role
Sole UX/UI Designer
I owned the entire design scope, working closely with:
CEO (product vision & roadmap alignment)
Engineering (UX feasibility & implementation)
Sales (customer needs, demos, feedback loops)
Marketing (product storytelling and positioning)
I was responsible for:
End-to-end UX across all applications
UX architecture and user flows
Interface design
Early design system foundations with Jean-Baptiste Cochery and Manuel Hitz
UX guidelines for consistency
Product storytelling support for go-to-market
Methodology and Outcomes
Product ecosystem design
I designed the full experience stack:
Fleet orchestration dashboard for operators
Traveler journeys for passengers
Driver and attendant workflows for field operations
Ensuring consistency across roles while adapting UX to each user context.
Close cross-functional collaboration
Working daily with engineers, I translated complex backend logic into clear operational interfaces.
With the Co-founder Raphaël Gindrat, and Anne Mellano, I helped shape product narratives, demos, and visuals used for client presentations and partnerships.
Design system foundations
Together with engineering, I initiated Bestmile’s first design system using InVision Design System Manager, establishing:
Core components
UI patterns
Interaction guidelines
This created alignment between design and development and accelerated delivery.

Startup mindset
Operating in a lean environment, I balanced:
Speed vs quality
Product discovery vs delivery
Long-term UX vision vs short-term pilot needs
while maintaining usability standards in a highly technical domain.
